During the coronavirus briefing on 6 April 2020, the Public Health Minister, Dr. Rafael Sanchez Cardenas, said that stronger measures could be instated in other provinces in addition to Duarte province, and its capital San Francisco de Macoris. He said these would not be simultaneous but would be progressive. “The geography of each province is different, and we are taking that into account,” he said. “There is a plan for stronger measures.” “We are headed in that direction this week,” he said.
So far there is community transmission in the National District, Santo Domingo province, Santiago, Duarte and La Vega provinces.
