President Medina extends State of Emergency through 30 April

President Danilo Medina extended for a period of 17 days starting 14 April 2020 the nationwide state of emergency, by virtue of the National Congress’s authorization through Resolution 63-20. The State of Emergency was made known by Decree 148-20. Spokesman for the President, Roberto Rodríguez Marchena, said that the executive act allows the implementation of necessary measures to battle the coronavirus (Covid-19) in the Dominican Republic.

The Presidency reports that the Executive Branch will continue to provide periodic reports to the bicameral committee of the National Congress in charge of following up on the actions, measures and provisions adopted during the state of emergency period.

Congress had approved an initial state of emergency from 20 March to 13 April. This is now extended from 14 April to 30 April.
