The outgoing mayor of the National District, David Collado announced he is making a donation of 1 million masks and gloves to persons living in low income barrios in the capital city. Collado’s term ends on 24 April 2020. He said people will be educated in the use of the protective gear and in the importance of social distancing to prevent the spread of the disease.
“The countries that have protected themselves best are those where their citizens have understood the importance of using masks and gloves as a form of prevention, and here in our city we have to join in that direction to win the battle against this disease,” Collado said during a press conference.
The million masks and gloves will begin to be distributed this Thursday, 16 April.
The supplies were thanks to contributions made by the private office of Juan B. Vicini Lluberes, United Capital, Grupo Rizek and Grupo SID. Separate quantities have been reserved for health centers and the media. The masks and gloves were delivered to the United Nations Development Programme, through the country representative Inka Mattila. The distribution will be through Jesuit priests that have identified how the goods will be channeled to the needy.
