Edwin de los Santos, president of AES Dominicana, announced the donation of the consumption of power in April and May to five hospitals that are handling coronavirus cases. The initiative is in agreement with the power utility companies. De los Santos said the donation adds up to around RD$21 million. It will free up resources for the hospitals to purchase medical supplies.
De los Santos informed that the hospitals sponsored by AES Dominicana are: Ramón De Lara, in Santo Domingo; Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia, in La Altagracia Province; Doctor Cabral y Báez, in Santiago; Carlos M.Rojas Badía, in Espaillat (Moca) and Federico Lanvandier, in Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís).
The company says it has made another RD$20 million in donations to the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (Intec) for the design and manufacturing of ventilators that will be made available to the local health system. Likewise, in the community of Haina, the company has distributed personal hygiene and protection kits, that include gloves, masks, caps, glasses and protective suits, as part of cooperation with Haina Pro-Development Trust (Padesha). Food kits have been distribution in coordination with the Haina Industries Association. The company says it has fitted the doctors, nurses and patients at the Boca Chica Municipal Hospital with cleaning and protection kits.
De los Santos also explained that since the start of the local spread of the disease,
health control committees were activated to receive ships with fuel at the AES Andres terminal, with a substantial reduction in personnel, protected by a preventive protocol, suspension of all activities that require travel and displacement, and the development of internal campaigns promoting measures to avoid the virus infection for collaborators and family members.
