Coronavirus coordinator urges people to stay at home

The coordinator of the High Commission for Prevention of Coronavirus, Presidency Minister Gustavo Montalvo ordered the law enforcement agencies to step up actions against those that violate the curfew and other dispositions in effect to prevent the spread of Covid-19. In his words to the nation on 14 April 2020, Montalvo said that only essential businesses are allowed to be open, social activities and crowds are banned. He said that passenger transport is still not allowed.

He insisted people stay at home and only go out for the most pressing needs. “If we drop our guard, we will lose the ground we have gained against the disease. It’s not a game, we’re seeing it all over the world,” he stated.

He appealed to the civic sense and love of life of the citizens. He urged that when needed to acquire basic products people go out with facial masks. “Do not take risks, do not take it lightly,” said Montalvo. Montalvo has been addressing the nation every evening from the Presidency. Public Health Minister Dr. Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas has been giving a press conference in the mornings to announce the statistics included in the day’s coronavirus bulletin and answer press questions.
