
He was only 65. Damaso García, best known for the years he played as a Blue Jays All-star infielder, died on 15 April 2020. He played 11 seasons in the Major Leagues, including seven seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays and was a two-time MLB All Star during his career with the Yankees, Braves and Expos from 1978-1989.
In the Dominican Republic, García played for the Licey team and was a member of the national baseball team at the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1974.
His son, Damasito García, said his father battled a brain tumor. He was given eight months to live when receiving the diagnosis, and lasted 29 years.
