Nurses say they are working without protective gear

Nurses at the Francisco Moscoso Puello Hospital on Thursday, 16 April 2020, denounced the lack of protective gear at the large public hospital. Dayanira Payano, speaking for her co-workers, said: “We are working with bare hands.”

The nurses demonstrated on Wednesday at the hospital entrance, as reported in Z101 Digital. Payano said she had “proof” that donations of essential supplies had arrived but that they were “being kidnapped” by the hospital management. She said as a result, protective suits and gloves are being laundered and reused. She called on those who have been making donations to ask for transparency in the distribution of the donations.

“We are not going to continue working with bare hands because our health comes first so that we can take care of you,” said the nurse. She said many health workers have had to buy the protective gear with their own resources.
