
The Dominican Republic crossed the benchmark of 5,000 confirmed Covid-19 cases from PCR diagnostic tests. According to Coronavirus Bulletin #33 of the Public Health Ministry’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 5,044 confirmed cases, 80 new cases and 245 deaths. There are 964 patients hospitalized, including 126 in intensive care units.
Bulletin #33 carries statistics up to 20 April 2020 at 6pm. The tally includes the results from 16,973 PCR diagnostic tests. The results from rapid response blood antibody tests are not included in the statistical report. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.
As of Sunday, 20 April, the most confirmed PCR cases continue to be reported in the National District and Santo Domingo Province (Greater Santo Domingo), Santiago, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), La Vega, Puerto Plata, Espaillat (Moca) and Monseñor Nouel (Bonao).
The largest increase in cases were reported for Santo Domingo province (64), Santiago (41), Duarte (25), La Vega (21), the National District (14), Puerto Plata (14), Monseñor Nouel (9), San Juan de la Maguana (6), María Trinidad Sánchez (4), Sánchez Ramírez (4), La Altagracia (3), La Romana (3). In the other 20 provinces, 1 or no cases are reported.
According to Bulletin #33, the evolution of the health crisis nationwide is:
National District: 1,295 cases, 14 new cases, 32 deaths
Santo Domingo province: 880 cases, 9 new cases, 36 deaths, including 1 new death
Santiago: 638 cases, 3 new cases, 38 deaths, including 5 new deaths, including 5 new deaths
Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís): 486 cases, 68 deaths
La Vega: 361 cases, 10 new cases, 7 deaths
Puerto Plata: 166 cases, 9 new cases, 9 deaths
Espaillat (Moca, Gaspar Hernández): 138 cases, 1 new case, 5 deaths
Monseñor Nouel (Bonao): 153 cases, 11 new cases, 3 deaths
San Cristóbal: 117 cases, 2 new cases, 3 deaths
La Altagracia (Higuey, Veron, Punta Cana): 93 cases, 1 death
Hermanas Mirabal / Salcedo: 125 cases, 11 deaths, 2 new deaths
La Romana: 92 cases, 2 deaths
Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí): 127 cases, 5 new cases, 5 deaths
María Trinidad Sánchez / Nagua: 69 cases, 1 new case, 3 deaths
San Pedro de Macorís: 54 cases, 7 deaths
Valverde: 32 cases, 1 death
Peravia: 35 cases, 1 death
San Juan de la Maguana: 38 cases, 3 deaths
Azua: 23 cases, 1 death
Barahona: 33 cases, 8 new cases, 1 death
Samaná: 19 cases, 1 death
Montecristi: 16 cases
Santiago Rodríguez: 17 cases, 1 new death
Hato Mayor: 9 cases, 1 death
Monte Plata: 11 cases, 3 deaths
Pedernales: 3 cases
El Seibo: 4 cases
San José de Ocoa: 4 case, 2 deaths
Dajabón: 1 case
Independencia: 1 case
Baoruco: 4 cases
Elías Piña remains the only province with no reported cases of Covid-19 as of 20 April 2020 at 6pm, as reported in Bulletin #33.
Haiti reports 57 confirmed cases and 3 deaths as of 19 April 2020.
