Outgoing Santo Domingo Mayor David Collado is proud to announce his latest feat: the lighting up of the Av. Winston Churchill, one of the most important roads in the capital city. Collado said he was able to complete the first stage of the lighting project that seeks to improve security of thousands of employees, residents and tourists who use the city avenue.
A press release explains that the Winston Churchill lighting project covers 2.5 kilometers on the north-south stretch of Winston Churchill Avenue from 27 de Febrero Avenue to Charles Sumner Avenue. Four sections of the boulevard have already been lit in recent weeks and the lighting of the sidewalks and other sections is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.
Most city residents have not noticed the change due to the 5pm curfew that is keeping people at home in the evening.
Mayor Collado, whose term ends on 24 April 2020, explained that 109 existing lighting poles are being replaced by modern ones. He said the poles still in good condition that are removed will be used in squares and parks in the city of Santo Domingo.
To carry out this project, the Mayor’s Office of the National District has received the support of Grupo Universal, Grupo Bonacam, Grupo Ramos, Grupo Martí, Banco BHD León and Banco de Reservas, among others that have joined the city initiative.
