Vice President Margarita Cedeño served as the spokesperson for the Medina administration efforts to combat the coronavirus epidemic on 23 April 2020. Over the past weeks, Minister of the Presidency Gustavo Montalvo had spoken almost daily from the Presidential Palace.
Cedeño announced the government would be including 70,000 new households in the RD$5,000 “Quedate en Casa” relief program in April and May. The Vice President said owners of beauty salons and public transport workers are being included in the new 70,000.
She explained only one person is a beneficiary per household of the program. She also said that the funds are upped to RD$7,000 in the case when a person of more than 65 years heads the household.
Cedeño has served as Vice President under the two terms of President Danilo Medina. Her office handles a large share of the welfare programs of the government. Cedeño is now running as vice presidential candidate for the ruling Dominican Liberation Party.
