Dominican Republic – Coronavirus Covid-19: Bulletin #38/25 April 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #38 of the Public Health Ministry’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 6,135 confirmed cases, 209 new cases and 278 deaths. There are 1,121 patients hospitalized. In the previous report (#37), the number of persons in intensive care units was 136. Report #38 does not indicate the updated number.

Bulletin #38 carries statistics up to 25 April 2020 at 6pm. The tally includes only the results from 22,498 PCR diagnostic tests. The results from rapid response blood antibody tests are not included in the statistical report, nor those diagnosed by tomography or other ways. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of Friday, 24 April 2020 at 6pm, the most confirmed PCR cases continue to be reported in the National District and Santo Domingo Province (Greater Santo Domingo), Santiago, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), La Vega, Puerto Plata, Espaillat (Moca) and Monseñor Nouel (Bonao).

The largest increase in cases were reported for the National District (54), Santo Domingo province (52), Duarte (25), Sánchez Ramírez / Cotuí (25), Santiago (11), Monseñor Nouel (9), San Cristóbal (9), La Vega (5), Valverde (5), Hermanas Mirabal (2), La Romana (2) and Monte Plata (2). In the other 20 provinces, 1 or no cases are reported.

According to Bulletin #38, the evolution of the health crisis nationwide is:

National District: 1,545 cases, 54 new cases, 37 deaths

Santo Domingo province: 1,135 cases, 52 new cases, 40 deaths, including 1 new death

Santiago: 765 cases, 11 new cases, 44 deaths

Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís): 587 cases, 25 new cases, 76 deaths, including 1 new death

La Vega: 427 cases, 5 new cases, 7 deaths

Puerto Plata: 193 cases, 1 new case, 13 deaths, including two new cases

Espaillat (Moca, Gaspar Hernández): 186 cases, 5 deaths

Monseñor Nouel (Bonao): 173 cases, 9 new cases, 3 deaths

Hermanas Mirabal / Salcedo: 150 cases, 5 new cases, 11 deaths

San Cristóbal: 156 cases, 9 new cases, 6 deaths, including 1 new death

Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí): 164 cases, 25 new cases, 6 deaths

La Altagracia (Higuey, Veron, Punta Cana): 110 cases, 1 new case, 1 death

La Romana: 107 cases, 2 new cases, 2 deaths

María Trinidad Sánchez / Nagua: 82 cases, 3 deaths

San Pedro de Macorís: 58 cases, 1 new case, 7 deaths

San Juan de la Maguana: 44 cases, 3 deaths

Peravia: 40 cases, 1 new case, 1 death

Barahona: 35 cases, 1 death

Valverde: 37 cases, 5 new cases, 2 deaths

Azua: 31 cases, 1 new case, 1 death

Santiago Rodríguez: 25 cases, 1 new case, 1 death

Samaná: 21 cases, 1 death

Montecristi: 13 cases

Monte Plata: 15 cases, 2 new cases, 3 deaths

Hato Mayor: 12 cases, 2 deaths

Baoruco: 4 cases

El Seibo: 5 cases, 1 new case

San José de Ocoa: 5 cases, 1 new case, 2 deaths

Pedernales: 3 cases

Dajabón: 3 cases

Independencia: 1 case

Elías Piña: 1 case

Haiti reports 74 confirmed cases and 6 deaths as of 25 April 2020.
