Officials of the Center for Exports and Investment (CEI-RD) and the Ministry for Economy are meeting to create a strategy for the reactivation of the Dominican economy. Marius de León, director of the CEI-RD and Economy Minister Juan Ariel Jiménez said they are focusing on the stabilization, reconversion and acceleration of the productive systems.
Economy Minister Jimenez said that several taxation, monetary and economic measures are under consideration.
CEI-RD director De León said they are being proactive and using commercial intelligence to identify international markets for national production.
Jimenez pointed out that for many years the Dominican Republic has been a leading exporter of medical devices and this crisis is a major opportunity to consolidate that position.
De Leon pointed out that now is the time to reassess the country’s production matrix and look at new ways of doing things.
The officials say they are aware of the weight that agriculture and food security have played in this crisis, and that Dominican agriculture could find certain niches in overseas markets.
