52-year old Diómedes Roque García (Roquelito) announced that he is committed to transparency in his new city government. During the virtual swearing-in ceremony, on 24 April 2020, he promised to work tirelessly to resolve “once and for all” the situation of the municipal dump and the municipal market. Present for the event was outgoing mayor Walter Musa, who had been in the position since 2008. Musa said his administration had achieved that 80 km in the municipality be paved. He offered his support to the present authorities.
García announced a clean-up and disinfection operation for his first weekend in office. His deputy mayor is Kenia de Leon. The media reports on the many new city councillors that are mostly young professionals and politicians.
