Industries president advocates gradual return to work

The president of the Association of Industries of the Dominican Republic (AIRD), Celso Juan Marranzini, advocated for a gradual opening of the Dominican economy. Speaking on the occasion of Citizen’s Ethics Day on 29 April 2020, he positively valued the effort and guidance of the Dominican authorities in these times of Covid-19. He said the opening should be linked to guaranteeing conditions that contribute to overcoming the current health crisis.

“We need to open up our economy further to save thousands of jobs and as a way to guarantee the permanence of thousands of businesses of all sizes, to contribute to welfare and social peace,” said Marranzini.

He said that the official statistics show progress, but that it is essential that all citizens are fully aware that only by being united for the same purpose can we overcome this crisis and prevent the adverse economic effects from deepening.

Marranzini said it is good to point out that the commitment to overcome this pandemic is a citizen’s ethical commitment. “If vulnerable people stay at home, if those who suspect they are exposed to the virus stay at home, if those who can go out wear masks all the time, if they keep a distance of at least twice their height from other people, if they maintain frequent hand washing and hygiene with disinfectants on surfaces, among other measures recommended by the authorities… if we make this a cause for everyone, we will win the battle, we will be able to reactivate the economy without driving the spread of the virus,” the president of AIRD expressed with hope for an end to the crisis.

“We need a country plan, we need consensus, we need to look in the same direction, we need to move forward with prudence, but to move forward, we need to feel and assume that this is a nation’s challenge,” Marranzini said.
