Dominican architect and interior designer has recommendations for quarantine days

Lila Hasbún has come up with 10 scientifically proven ways people can transform their overall wellbeing during the coronavirus lockdown. Her recommendations are as simple as getting indoor plants, placing an image of water on your walls or whoever you spend a lot of time looking at. She also recommends adding furniture, surfaces, gadgets and utensils made of natural wood to lower anxiety.

Did you know that you can synchronize your circadian rhythm just by changing the light bulbs to ones that mimic the natural sunlight cycle? She stresses that emotional needs matter: “Always have an object, a photograph or some type of physical reminder that makes you smile!”

Hasbún is a graduate of the Universidad Iberoamericana architectural school in Santo Domingo, with graduate studies in interior decorating from Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) in Georgia, USA. She is an architect with a San Francisco, California-based architectural firm.

Her remarks are scientifically based. For her thesis at SCAD, she carried out a two-year research project accepted by the US government National Institute of Health where she compiled evidence-based solutions that support physical health, emotional wellbeing and neurological responses in regards to the physical environment.
