
After days of working in hell on earth, Dominican firefighters have gotten the Duquesa garbage dump under control. Listin Diario reports on the heroism of these frontline workers whose efforts delivered Greater Santo Domingo, and a population of more than 3 million people, from breathing in the toxic smog. Since Tuesday, 28 April at around 3pm, the worst fire ever at a garbage dump, took hold of the site. Dozens of firemen from all around the country were sent to help put out the blaze to stop the fumes that were suffocating the capital city and environs once the breezes flowed in a north to south direction.
