Dominican Republic ranks high on Oxford Stringency Index that compiles Covid-19 epidemic measures

According to the Oxford Stringency Index, the Dominican Republic ranks at 92.72, one of the highest in the Americas. The DR is part of the Central American block, that includes Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador that are also above 92 points on the Oxford Stringency Index. In the Americas, Argentina, Ecuador Puerto Rico, Peru and the United States as of 29 March showed higher indexes than the Dominican Republic.

The Oxford COVID-19 Government Response Tracker is a new tool that compiles measures taken by governments around the world to tackle the Covid-19 outbreak. The index tracks and compares worldwide government responses to the coronavirus. The idea is that the systematic information on which measures governments take, and when, can help nations understand the responses in a consistent way, aiding efforts to fight the global epidemic.

The index records government policies such as school closures, travel bans, workingplace closing, canceling of public events, restrictions on gatherings, closing public transport, stay at home requirements, fiscal measures, public information campaigns, testing policy, contact tracing, emergency investment in healthcare and investment in vaccines.
