
Luis Concepción, president of the Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo), urged the deputies to move on the approval given in the Senate to maintain free trade benefits with the United Kingdom that expire on 31 December 2020. Concepción says the agreement is important to Dominican trade. The UK is the 9th market for national exports.
The Dominican Association of Exporters (Adoexpo) welcomes the ratification by the Senate of the free trade agreement between the United Kingdom and the member countries of the Caribbean Forum of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (Cariforum). The Dominican Republic is a signatory of Cariforum. The agreement was reached after the UK left the European Union. The Senate passed the bill on 26 April 2020. The bill is now pending approval by the Chamber of Deputies. Concepción urged deputies to put it on their agenda.
The executive vice president of the Dominican Association of Free Zones (Adozona), Odile Miniño Bogaert, emphasized that the framework is essential to ensure that exporters can maintain market share in the UK and to the economy in general, especially given the impact of the coronavirus epidemic.
