Why is Guillermo Moreno excluded from ANJE debate?

The Country Alliance political party (AlPais), said it deeply regrets the “anti-democratic and unjust” attitude of the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) in excluding Guillermo Moreno from the debate of the presidential candidates. In a press release, Al Pais said that ANJE contradicts itself when it says the purpose of the Electoral Debate 2020 DR is to encourage the conscious vote of the citizens, through knowledge of the plans and proposals of the government of the different candidates, but then excludes the candidates who do not have large fortunes to spend on publicity, but who nevertheless have plans and experience to assume the leadership of the country, just like any other.

Alianza País hopes that the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs (ANJE) will amend this mistake, to continue being, as indicated in its statutes, a space whose the most important value is impartiality, as a channel for the presentation of visionary and concrete solutions to the problems that affect the economic, social and institutional development in the Dominican Republic.

The candidates invited to participate in the debate are Luis Abinader, from the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Leonel Fernández, People’s Force (FP) and Gonzalo Castillo, from the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). Castillo has not confirmed he will attend. ANJE has given the candidates until 22 June to confirm their participation for the 22 June person to person debate.

ANJE had included minority candidates in the municipal debates.

A recent Mark Penn poll shows Abinader has 39%, Castillo 37%, Fernández 10% and Moreno 1%.
