Parts of Santiago will be without water for two days

As the Santiago Corporation for Water and Sewers (CORAASAN) closes the century-old Monsieur Bogaert Canal (the nation’s first major irrigation canal), the people in the outlaying municipal districts of La Canela and Hato del Yaque, to the South and West of the city, will have no water supply. The two-day closure is required to make the connections to the new system that will serve the entire area, including the soon-to-be-created Juan Bosch City, a 14,000-unit housing project. The new water system for the area is nearing completion and this is one of the final steps. The RD$589 million project will be supplying La Canela, Hato del Yaque and Juan Bosch City with clean water in the near future. The Coraasan recommended that folks store water for this 48-hour period.
