Pope Francis has just named Monsignor Jesus Castro Marte, who was working in the Dioceses of Santo Domingo and serving as the rector of the Catholic University of Santo Domingo, as the new bishop of the dioceses of La Altagracia. The most important Catholic shrine in the DR, honoring Our Lady of All Graces (La Altagracia), is part of this diocese. Archbishop Nicanor Peña had resigned due to age, in accordance to Canon Law. Monsignor Castro Marte has a long academic and religious history as an educator and in public service. He holds a doctorate in university management from the Universidad Alcalá de Henares, Spain (2014).
