British airlines include DR in their wish list for travel

The Dominican Republic, Antigua, Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Jamaica and St. Lucia are Caribbean destinations included in a 45-country wish list for quarantine-free travel to places chosen for popularity and economic importance. The Daily Mail, the English daily, reports that the countries are included in the index requested by the UK government amid mounting fury over ‘unenforceable’ plans for a 14-day quarantine imposed on all arrivals. British Airways, Easyjet and Virgin Atlantic have agreed on including these favorite destinations for UK travelers. As reported, the airlines want the first air bridges to be set up by the end of this month ‘at the latest’, raising fresh hopes for summer holidays abroad.

As reported in the Daily Mail, the UK government requested the airlines send the list so they could have a sense of where the volume and demand would be. The newspaper says that the proposed list will also depend on countries wanting to set up an air bridge with the UK and the Foreign Office will have to drop its advice against all but essential global travel.

Paola Rainieri, president of the National Hotel & Tourism Association (Asonahores) told Diario Libre that the inclusion in the list is a clear indicator of the confidence of travel abroad in the Dominican Republic as a popular holiday destination and a safe destination.
