Investigative journalist Nuria Piera in her Saturday, 6 June 2020 TV program presented evidence that the police in the Dominican Republic may be using similar technique that served to kill George Floyd in Minneapolis to restrain citizens in the Dominican Republic.
Piera says it appears Dominican Police has been trained in the use of these techniques. Dominican Police have received training from the New York Police. A spokesman for the Police says that they are trained in correct protocols, and that cases of violation are carried out by individuals and that it is not systemic.
Piera concludes her report on the George Floyd and local Police brutality: “It is not credible that by chance different uniformed patrols both here and in the US perform exactly the same maneuver with the same result. It is clear that the agents are trained in this arrest maneuver and that it is used with total impunity, or this has been so until now. Let’s hope that at least this time these protests serve to banish the abuse, hatred and outrage of law enforcement.”
