
The presidential candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Luis Abinader closed the rounds of national unity talks held since 4 May with a call on Sunday, 7 June 2020 that the summit become a permanent space for debates on national issues. The summit gathered business, labor, political parties, academics, intellectuals, and community leaders.
During the closing event held at the Club Los Prados in the National District, Abinader said: “For too long in the Dominican Republic we have had two countries, one country for a few and another country for the majority of citizens.” He mentioned the divide in matters of security, high salaries, health services for the privileged few, while the majority suffers from crime, unemployment and deficient health services. “Today we must all assume the commitment to unite these two countries into one,” he said. He stressed we all are Dominicans.
