Public prosecutors crackdown on underground party

The Attorney General Office announced the arrest of at least 70 persons who had attended an underground party on the evening of Saturday, 6 June 2020. The participants were fined RD$5,000 and the organizers RD$25,000 and RD$50,000. The public prosecutor’s office of Santo Domingo East thwarted the clandestine party and arrested Dominicans and Russian, Brazilian, Venezuelan nationals for violating the 7pm curfew. In a press release, the Santo Domingo East prosecution says that one 19-year old, Algenis Mejía Carela was arrested for distributing among party participants a substance, presumably marihuana, as reported in El Nuevo Diario. The investigation was carried out with J2 intelligence unit of the Army.

The party was taking place in Sabana Perdida in eastern Santo Domingo. The authorities followed up on invitations to the “Breakout Night Pool Party” promoted on social media. The promotion announced the party would take place in a secret location and established an admission fee of RD$500 per person to be paid via bank deposit or in cash at an address in the Invivienda sector.
