Santo Domingo East Mayor Manuel Jimenez is optimistic that, on 16 August, the country will be seeing a change in the government’s political party. In an interview with Diario Libre, he assured that Luis Abinader, the presidential candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), will take the election.
He said most of the people want a change. “I think there is no doubt about that. All the surveys reflect that,” he said during the Dialogo Libre interview. He said that he won the city government with 59.7%, and so he expects that Abinader will grab the election in a first round. In the Dominican Republic 50%+1 vote is needed to win in a first round of voting for president.
In the interview, he spoke positively of the organization of the municipal elections. He is optimistic the Central Electoral Board (JCE) will successfully celebrate the presidential and congressional election.
