The presidential candidate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) Luis Abinader and his wife Raquel Arbaje tested positive for Covid-19. Abinader shared the news on the evening of 10 June 2020 in a short video on social media. Their cases are mild and the couple will self-isolate. Abinader said his doctors are confident he will have a speedy recovery as he is not a high-risk patient. The couple did not share how they are being treated.
Abinader is the frontrunner according to leading polls for winning the 2020 presidential election. The polls show if he does not take the election in a first round on 5 July, he will do so in the second round on 26 July.
