Dominican Republic – Coronavirus Covid-19: Bulletin #84/10 June 2020

According to Coronavirus Bulletin #84 of the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Epidemiology, the Dominican Republic has 21,437 confirmed cases, 629 new confirmed cases and 561 deaths, including 6 new deaths, 5 in Greater Santo Domingo and one in San Cristóbal. 2,788 patients are hospitalized. Of these, 124 patients are in intensive care units. The results are from 102,500 PCR diagnostic tests. The number of coronavirus-related deaths averages around 6.2 over the past 14 days. The fatality rate continues to decline and as of Bulletin #84 is at 2.62%.

The average per day of PCR diagnostic tests for the past 14 days is now 2,102, primarily due to the difficulties in sourcing the inputs needed for the tests. The statistical reports do not include rapid response blood antibody tests or patients diagnosed with tomography or other means. The Dominican Republic has a population of more than 10 million people.

As of Wednesday, 10 June 2020 at 6pm, the most confirmed cases continue to be reported in urban areas. Greater Santo Domingo (Santo Domingo province and the National District) has 52.8% of the 21,437 total confirmed cases. Santiago, San Cristobal, La Vega, Duarte (San Francisco de Macorís), Espaillat, La Romana, La Altagracia (Higuey, Verón, Punta Cana), Puerto Plata, Azua, Monseñor Nouel (Bonao), Barahona, Sánchez Ramírez (Cotuí) and Hermanas Mirabal (Salcedo) are provinces that have 200 or more cases.

The most new cases reported for the 10 June deadline are: Santo Domingo Province (225), National District (123), San Cristóbal (44), Azua (26), La Vega (17), San Juan de la Maguana (15), Santiago (12), La Romana (9), La Altagracia (8), Santiago Rodríguez (5), Puerto Plata (4), San José de Ocoa (4), Monte Plata (3), San Pedro de Macoris (3) and Monseñor Nouel (3). The Ministry of Public Health reports one or no confirmed cases in 15 of 31 provinces and the National District.

In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is ranked 10th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Peru, Canada, Mexico, Chile, Ecuador, Colombia, and Argentina.
