JetBlue, Delta, United, American Airlines and Spirit have programmed flights from the United States to Las Americas International, the airport serving the capital city of the Dominican Republic. The first travelers are expected to be Dominicans living in the United States, or hundreds of travelers who were caught abroad by the Covid-19 epidemic. Airports in the Dominican Republic have been closed since 20 March 2020 to commercial passenger flights.

The Medina administration has yet to officially authorize the opening of airports to international travel. Hotels and restaurants are scheduled to open on 1 July, as recommended in the fourth phase of the five-tier reopening plan. Yet, the government needs to give the green light for the airports to open, flights to resume, and hotels to reopen to the general public. The guidelines for the reopening of the tourism industry have yet to be published. The government, nevertheless, has been keeping to the scheduled five-phase reopening plan, with tourism businesses scheduled to open in phase four on 1 July. The government has already given green light to the first two phases.
