Summer is here!

The summer solstice has occurred, and the temperatures are rising. Numbers in the mid to high 30s centigrade or 90s in Fahrenheit are letting people know that summer is here. However, the coronavirus epidemic impedes people from enjoying beaches and swimming pools. The tentative date for opening access to beach and pools is 1 July.

The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) is watching some tropical waves coming towards the island, and these might well bring some relief to the heat. Nevertheless, the Sahara dust may keep rains to a minimum.

As always, during these months, the recommendations are to refrain from going outside from 11am to 4pm, at least not for too long a period. Clothing should be light in color and weight, and lots of liquids are also needed to maintain a healthy balance in the body system.
