The Traffic and Transportation Safety Agency (Digesett) attributes the latest major traffic snafus in the National District and the province of Santo Domingo to the reopening of the economy. This has brought with it the usual increase in accidents and breakdowns, the increase in heavy trucking and the usual failure of commuters to adhere to the traffic laws.
Hillman Pimentel, the spokesperson for Digesett, told Diario Libre that many people are now using their own vehicles to get to their work or business. According to Pimentel, they drive their vehicles and then leave these near the Metro or OMSA stops where they board these. He said many companies have flexible work schedules and nowadays some people are getting on the road at a later hour than usual and thus creating these traffic jams. Pimentel did note that the Digesett traffic cops were working three shifts to deal with the new reality.
