Omnisalud Colectivo: Milestone for telemedicine in the DR

Miguel Coronado, representative of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in the Dominican Republic, and Dr. Jose Yunen, president of the Yunen Group, have agreed to create the “Omnisalud Colectiva”, a multi-channel telemedicine platform to offer health services focused on Covid-19.

As part of actions taken for the prevention, containment and mitigation during the Covid-19 pandemic, the initiative will offer patient diagnostics and monitoring. It will also help with the creating of forecasting models to assess Covid-19 in the Dominican Republic.

In a first phase, Omnisalud Colectivo can cover 50,000 people. It will be open to persons with low-income government health plans and those who are not enrolled in any health insurance plan. This will be possible through the pro-bono collaboration scheme with medical specialists that will be working for free during the pandemic.

According to a press release, the initiative seeks to serve as a catalyst to promote and consolidate telemedicine at the national level, achieving a systemic impact in the short and medium-term. It will take as a model the experience of “MiMédico” telemedicine services offered by Seguros Yunen to its affiliates.

IDB representative Miguel Coronado said that this platform is a milestone for the establishment of innovation in the country, since it takes advantage of available technology, promoting the required social distance and ensuring continuity and equity in access to health services.

Likewise, the president of Grupo Yunen, Dr. José Yunén, emphasized that this is the moment to unite collaborative efforts that contribute and add to the country’s health structure so that through efficient technological platforms and a network of medical specialists the impact of the pandemic can be reduced.

Smeldy Ramirez, the senior officer of the IDB Lab in the country, says the initiative is part of a series of projects in the design phase that have been approved by the organization to support the country in dealing
with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
