Judge sends electoral security staff to preventive custody; they are accused of RD$37 million robbery

Judge Iris Borges of the Permanent Attention Office of the Court of Santiago sentenced security guards Joel Antonio Durán, Juan Carlos Fortuna, Jorge Luis Peña Rosso and Estarlin Rosario to serve a year of preventive custody for their involvement in the robbery of RD$37 million in cash belonging to the Central Electoral Board of Santiago. The money would have been used for the 5 July election. The money, nevertheless, went missing. A prompt Police investigation helped find most of the cash in less than a week. Most of the cash had been left hidden in the ceiling of the electoral board. The case will be heard at the Santiago court.
