Abinader: Priorities are health crisis, and activating construction and small business

President-elect Luis Abinader said his government plans to target the economic and health crisis simultaneously. He said the focus is on preserving jobs, stimulating new ones, and backing companies’ cash flow. The Abinader administration begins on 16 August 2020.

Abinader made the remarks after visiting the Ministry of Defense’s Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Cybersecurity and Intelligence Center (C5i), a technological facility where data on the virus is analyzed in real time.

“Have faith and hope. We are preparing to tackle the crisis on all fronts and will take special measures immediately we get to government,” he said.

He said the data generated by the C5i center will enable the government to adopt transversal public policies. C5i is set up to compile all health information available from health institutions, hospitals and clinics related to the coronavirus.

Abinader called on the population to continue with preventive health measures, such as the use of masks and social distancing.

The President-elect was accompanied by Vice President-elect Raquel Peña, as well as the designated ministers of the Presidency, Lisandro Macarrulla; of Health, Plutarco Arias; of Defense, Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa. They were received by the current Minister of Defense, Rubén Darío Paulino Sem, and the director of the C5i, Rear Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester.
