The man appointed to be the Tourism Minister in the Abinader administration, David Collado, was in Philadelphia yesterday to meet with Alex Zozaya, chairman of Apple Leisure Group, the company that has the largest local chain of hotels and sends the most tourists from the United States. Apple Leisure Group operates 11 resorts (5,145 rooms) in five Dominican destinations. They addressed the efforts for the recovery of tourism in the Dominican Republic.
“From the Abinader cabinet and the Ministry of Tourism we will spare no effort to adopt all necessary measures in consensus with tour operators, hoteliers and other actors in the sector,” said Collado. President-elect Luis Abinader has said he personally will take a leadership role at the head of his government’s tourism cabinet.
As reported, during the meeting the focus was on creating the conditions for safe travel. He met with the company’s two chief executives, chairman Alex Zozaya and Alejandro Reynal, chief executive officer.
Collado is a former Mayor of the National District, the capital city of the Dominican Republic. He had worked closely with the Colonial City for the relaunching of the historic center as a major Dominican tourist attraction. He also headed the tourism commission when serving as a legislator prior to his election for mayor. The new government starts 16 August 2020.
