
Foreign arrivals were down 88.5% and Dominican non-resident arrivals 33% in July 2020 compared to July 2019. Dominican airports received 135,163 non-resident travelers in the first month of opening. In July 2020, the number of arrivals included 81,058 non-resident Dominicans and 54,105 non-resident foreigners. Of these 46,207 or 85.4% came from the United States in July 2019, 591,348 non-resident visitors had arrived.
The statistics are for the first month after airports reopened on 1 July following shutdown from 20 March through 30 June 2020 due to the Covid-19 virus.
Overall, given the interruption in travel, overall travel from January to July 2020 was 1,529,254 non-resident visitors. This is down 63.3% compared to the first seven months of 2019. Foreign arrivals were down 65% and Dominican non-resident arrivals were down 52.9% this year compared to January-July 2019. Dominican travelers for the period were 756,017. This is 62.7% less.
The Central Bank says that 60.2% of the non-resident travelers for the January-July period were from the United States and Canada, 25.4% from Europe, 11.1% from South America, 2.9% from Central America and the Caribbean and 0.4% from the rest of the world.
