Former Minister of Tourism Felix (Felucho) Jiménez wants to be remembered for compiling the best Dominican classics music collection. The PLD politician has presided over the Dominican Oil Refinery (Refidomsa) for the past five years. During this time, he headed a major effort to compile the most comprehensive collection of Dominican music classics. He says the collections are a reality today thanks to donations Refidomsa providers have made to the Fundación Refidomsa that has spearheaded the cultural initiative.
116 discs and four DVDs contain seven collections of popular and classical music, Dominican performers, composers, orchestras and arrangers.
The music collections are “Clásicos Dominicanos,” “Antología musical”, “Canción Romántica,” “Voces dominicanas de ayer y siempre,” “Orquestas y conjuntos dominicanos del siglo XX,” “Canto a Quisqueya” and “Un siglo de música dominicana”.
Jiménez said these collections are not for sale. He said they will be uploaded to YouTube and other music platforms.
“The discs, DVDs and USB memories will be part of the Dominican Music Museum. They will be in the General Archives of the Nation, they are being given as gifts to music academies and 100 of the most important radio stations in the Dominican Republic,” he explained. He said the collections would also be sent to the Dominican embassies around the world.
Several leading arrangers and Dominican singers participated in the initiative. Maestro Jochy Sanchez said the anthology of Dominican music will transcend. He said filmmakers will now have a collection of classic music to choose the music for their productions.
Others that have made important contributions to the collection are Adalgisa Pantaleon, Dante Cucurullo, and Dioni Fernandez. Overall, the hard work of more than 20 arrangers and more than 30 vocalists, pays tribute, for example, in the collection “Antología musical” (six CDs), to the composers Luis Kalaff, Luis Rivera, Bullumba Landestoy, Moisés Zouain, Billo Frómeta and Mario de Jesús, whose compositions are sung by Víctor Víctor, Rando Camasta, Frank Ceara, Claudia Sierra, Patricia Pereyra, Nathalie Hazim, Many Cruz, Diomary Castillo, Víctor Tolentino and Melvin Francisco.
There is a tribute to singer-composer Victor Victor, who recently passed away of the Covid-19 virus.
