
Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya said she traveled from Spain to attend the inauguration of Luis Abinader to make clear the importance Spain attributes to its relations with the Dominican Republic.
Prior to the inauguration, on Saturday González Laya met with designated Foreign Minister Roberto Alvarez to discuss bilateral matters. She is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Abinader once he is sworn in as President on the morning of 16 August 2020.
Spain is the country’s largest investor in the tourism industry. In an EFE interview, the Foreign Minister said there is great potential for more investments in technology, agrifood, medical and pharmaceutical products. She invited new foreign minister Roberto Alvarez to Spain for further talks.
