
Visiting US Secretary of State Michael Pompeo tweeted on his day trip to the Dominican Republic for the inaugural of President Luis Abinader on 16 August 2020:
“My visit to Santo Domingo was one to remember. U.S.-Dominican cooperation is paramount to the security and prosperity of the Caribbean and hemisphere. We stand firmly with the Dominican Republic as an ally to meet our shared goals in the region. #Caribbean2020”
During his visit, Pompeo attended the inaugural at the National Assembly. He met with former President Danilo Medina at the US Embassy shortly after the later turned in the presidential sash, and then with President Luis Abinader. He was present for the gala lunch for the special guests at the Presidential Palace.
