DR gets a new coastal guard ship from US Southern Command

The Dominican Armada has a new 85-foot coastal guard vessel, named Betelgeuse (102). The ship is a donation by the US Department of State and the US Southern Command. The aluminum cutter was one of 13 built under a US Department of Defense Foreign Military Sales program. The vessel is fitted for search and rescue (SAR), border patrol, police and customs duties, counter-narcotics operations, and securing waters of economic importance.
