The movie industry in the Dominican Republic is getting back to work after being suspended in March due to Covid-19. As reported, production of the supernatural thriller “Geechee” starring Andrea Riseborough has resumed at Lantica Pinewood in Juan Dolio, San Pedro de Macoris.
The film plot is about a clash of cultures when the Gullah Geechee people in the South Carolina Sea Islands encounter gentrification, cultural appropriation and the legacy of slavery. Riseborough portrays a successful New York scientist who decides to leave the city with her son to start life over in the remote Sea Islands off the Atlantic coast. She quickly falls in love with the secluded island and its people, who are descendants of a centuries-old group of African slaves, but her world starts to unravel as the souls of the subjugated begin to haunt her dreams and her waking life.
In addition to Riseborough, others starring in the film are Amin Joseph, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Antoinette Crowe-Legacy, Gavin Warren, Victoria Hill, Starletta DuPois, and Judith Scott. The film is an AGC Studios and Ingenious Media production.
