Interior & Police and Defense ministers, Attorney General and prosecutors meet to talk crime originating in jails

Interior & Police Minister Jesús (Chu) Vasquez called a high-level meeting to analyze citizen security and find definite ways to control crime originating from Dominican prisons. The participants: Defense Minister Carlos Díaz Morfa, Attorney General Miriam Germán, Adjunct Prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, director of the Police Edward Ramón Sánchez met with Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) director Nelson Arroyo and jails consultant Roberto Santana.

“It is fundamental to take measures to eradicate the levels of crime emanating from the country’s prisons. For this purpose, we have convened the main authorities in charge of the management of the prison system,” Interior Minister Vásquez Martínez wrote in his Twitter account. Previously Vásquez Martínez had met with Nelson Arroyo of Indotel on actions that could be taken to improve citizen safety. Inmates in several jails have been allowed to keep and use their mobile phones.
