Government downsizing, 200 jail inmates on the payroll, hard disks were removed

Minister of Public Administration Dario Castillo Lugo says 6,396 government employees hold two jobs in government. This is against the law. He said each case will be reviewed and the persons may be asked to choose between the two jobs.

Interviewed on El Despertador (Noticias SIN) on Color Vision, Castillo Lugo added that 3,000 government workers are holding a job while at the same time receiving a government pension. This also is against the law. Castillo said the crosscheck of the government payroll shows six dead persons are on the payroll and around 200 jail inmates. He said the government payroll is around 500,000 employees, of which 40% do not go to work.

This week the government has announced around 200 cancellations of high-ranking officers at the Dominican Agrarian Institute (IAD), Metropolitan Bus Services Offices (OMSA), National Lottery, Migration Agency, Housing Institute (Inavi), National Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre), Ministry of Culture, State Cafeteria Plan (Comedores Economicos), Dominican Port Authority, National Institute for Potable Water and Sewage (Inapa), Santo Domingo Water and Sewage Corporation (CAASD), the New York consulate and more.

President Luis Abinader said on Thursday, 27 August that the past authorities left no information about inventory, debts, payments and purchases in the Social Plan agency, a Presidency division. He said all the hard drives of the computers were removed, so there is an ongoing investigation. A similar situation was found at Promese/Cal that supplies pharmaceutical supplies to government pharmacies.

The Presidency has ordered the Comptroller General Office to carry out audits.
