President Luis Abinader announced that high-ranking government officers need to present their balance sheet by 15 September. The law gives officers 30 days after taking oath to do so. Abinader said that those officers who do not comply with the formality will be suspended from their position. He spoke in the presence of former Vice President Milagros Ortiz Bosch, who directs the Ethics Agency at the Executive Branch. The former Vice President was known for transparency in office when she was both Vice President and Minister of Education during the former President Hipolito Mejia administration (2000-2004).
President Abinader was present for the reading of a notice reminding government officers that employing family members and accepting gifts is against the law.
President Abinader campaigned on the commitment for transparency and honesty in his government.
