Attorney General Miriam Germán Brito met with the president of the Supreme Court of Justice Luis Henry Molina at the offices of the chief justice. As reported by the Supreme Court of Justice, the meeting was part of the coordination between the Judiciary and the Public Ministry for the justice administration system’s proper functioning.
Molina emphasized the great value that the justice system can now count on a prosecutor who knows and understands the courts’ work and the Supreme Court itself. Molina, a member of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), was named to preside the Supreme Court of Justice in April 2019. He had directed the National Judicial School from 1998 to 2010.
German Brito was the presiding judge of the Penal Chamber of the Supreme Court until her predecessor Jean Alain Rodriguez presented “evidence” at the National Council of the Magistracy session that served to invalidate her from continuing in her role. The “evidence” was later proven to be fake, yet she was removed from the position. German Brito was known for her dissident opinions to the handling of important cases by her predecessor.
The Supreme Court of Justice note says that the Attorney General and Henry Molina discussed the justice system’s challenges and opportunities in the Dominican Republic. Both expressed openness in working together for a transparent, agile and efficient justice service.
During the meeting, they also discussed the Judicial Service, the plan for the work’s continuity to expand virtual court sessions. The Supreme Court says that the parties agreed to accelerate the hearings for thousands of Dominicans in custody who await their cases be heard.
The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prosecutor Yeni Berenice Reynoso, the Regional Prison Academy director, Roberto Santana, and adjunct prosecutor Ana Morun. On behalf of the Judicial Branch, the secretary general of the Judicial Council, Gervasia Valenzuela; the secretary General of the Supreme Court of Justice, César García Lucas, and Ángel Brito, Director General of Administration and Career of the Judicial Branch, participated.
