President Luis Abinader announced he would be reactivating the Economic and Social Council (CES) to serve as the nation’s platform for discussing public policies. After meeting with Guillermo Moreno, president of the Country Alliance (AlPais) political party, he made the observation. President Abinader met with the directors of AlPais at the minority party’s headquarters, including Minou Tavarez, Fidelio Despradel and others at the party’s office on 27 de Febrero.
Abinader said the meeting had been fruitful and was just a first of meetings. He said his ministers explained government policies and listened to Alianza Pais members’ views to incorporate their ideas into government actions. President Abinader was there with Education Minister Roberto Furcal, Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ignacio Paliza, and Presidency Minister Lisandro Macarrulla. “This is the start of talks,” stressed President Abinader.
After the meeting, Guillermo Moreno had praise for the initiative. He said it was the best way to reach a consensus on responsible policies in these times of crisis. “The initiative is an effort to build consensus and jointly find solutions to the economic, health and social crisis we are all living and that requires the participation of a diversity of sectors,” said Moreno. He said the party would back the government on good initiatives and present responsible and critical opposition. “That the government govern well, and the opposition carry out its role presenting critical and responsible opposition,” he said. “That is democracy,” stressed Moreno.
After the first meeting with Guillermo Moreno, Abinader was scheduled to meet with former President Leonel Fernández of People’s Force (FP) at the Fundación Global at 11am and with former President Danilo Medina of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) at 5pm.
