The president of the Senate, engineer Rafael Eduardo Estrella Virella declared his patrimony to be RD$17,403,122. Estrella is a former Public Works Minister (1991-1994) and director of Inapa (1990-1991).
San Juan de la Maguana senator Felix Bautista declares the same worth he had presented for his 2016 statement, or RD$30,484,584. Bautista won reelection for San Juan de la Maguana on the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) ticket. After winning, he split to the People’s Force, the party created for the followers of former President Leonel Fernández after he split from the PLD. The US government in 2018 announced that Felix Bautista is one of the first to be designated under the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act for engaging in significant acts of corruption in both the Dominican Republic and Haiti.
The senator for El Seibo, one of the poorest provinces in the East, declared wealth for more than RD$200 million. This is senator Santiago Jose Zorrilla’s second term. He was first elected senator for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) for the term 2016-2020.
National District senator Faride Raful, who previously served as a deputy in the Chamber of Deputies, reports RD$10.6 million in her worth statement. She reports earnings of RD$320,000 as a senator, and RD$100,000 as a TV host for a TeleAntillas program on Channel 2 and RD$40,000 for her appearances on Esta Noche con Mariasela on Channel 9. She was elected on the PRM ticket.
The southwestern province of Baoruco has a population of around 120,000 inhabitants, with around 70,000 in provincial towns. It is regarded as one of the poorest in the country. Nevertheless, the Baoruco senator Melania Salvador de Jiménez owns up to wealth of RD$41 million. She owes RD$7 million. She reports earnings of RD$320,000 a month as a senator. She was elected for the PRM.
