President Abinader in Samana

President Luis Abinader traveled to Samana on Monday for meetings with the community. On Monday he was present for the inauguration of the Las Terrenas wastewater plant.

He overnighted on Monday in Samana to continue the meetings with business, community and government representatives. On Monday, he asked the people of Samana to present a comprehensive plan with their needs.

President Abinader was also present to announce the start of construction of a 5.8 km road to connect the El Limón road to Morón and Punta Lanza beaches (Limón-Playa Morón and Ramal-Punta Lanza). Right now, the beaches are only accessible by dirt trails. The road is estimated to cost RD$121 million. A RD$10 million bridge will be built in El Limón.

President Abinader also stopped at the Pablo Antonio Paulino Municipal Hospital. Dr. Plutarco Arias said it would take another 45 days to resolve the problems at the Las Terrenas public hospital. He said it needs equipping and has power issues. He acknowledged the low incidence of Covid-19 in the province and said that this was one of the areas where the authorities could consider reducing the curfew hours in the future.

Accompanying the President were Tourism Minister David Collado, Administrative Minister of the Presidency Jose Ignacio Paliza, director of the National Institute of Potable Water and Sewage (Inapa), senator Pedro Catrain (PRM-Samana), Samana governor Elsa de Leon, and Public Health Minister Plutarco Arias.

Las Terrenas mayor Eduardo (Willy) Esteban called for the construction of a new cemetery in Las Terrenas. He also requested the asphalting of the town streets.

Local authorities are pressing for the solving of the high tolls that affect domestic travel to Samana. From Santo Domingo tolls to Samana are RD$2,000 when capital city residents pay only RD$300 to reach Punta Cana, a similar travel time.
