The Ministry of Public Health’s Epidemiology Department Coronavirus Bulletin #189 reports 385 cases of persons testing positive to PCR tests over the past 24 hours. The number of cases has been significantly declining. The health ministry announced the processing of 3,056 first PCR tests in time for the Wednesday, 23 September deadline. The 14-day average for first PCR tests has not been increasing. It is now at 3,710 PCR tests. The Ministry of Public Health says the demand for PCR tests has declined.
The 24-hour positivity rate for Bulletin #189 is at 12.60%, a record low. The four-week positivity rate continues to decline and is now at 17.10%, a striking difference from the 25% positivity rate on Monday.
Local epidemiologists alert that the spread of the virus comes and goes. This situation is why the Ministry of Public Health continues to recommend keeping curfew and preventive measures. The curfew is due to expire on 27 September 2020. The public health authorities have announced the government plans to reduce curfew by two hours at the expiration date. This will make curfew from 9pm to 5am Monday to Friday, and 7pm to 5am on Saturdays and Sundays.
As per Bulletin #189, with the deadline of 23 September 2020, the Ministry of Public Health has registered 110,122 confirmed cases since the first case on 1 March 2020.
There are 24,028 active cases in the Dominican Republic, some 21 less than the previous day.
The number of deaths is 2,076, including two deaths recorded and occurring in the past 24 hours. In a population of more than 10 million, the fatality rate is 1.89% over the past four weeks. The fatality rate per 1M inhabitants is 198.69. The Ministry of Public Health reports that the average 1M inhabitants’ fatality rate for the Americas is 517.
Worldometer lists the 1M deaths per inhabitant rate for the United States at 626, Canada at 245, Spain at 665, Colombia 489 and the Dominican Republic at 191.
The Ministry of Public Health report indicates that 24% of Covid-19 hospital beds are occupied (829 of 3,472 total available). 38% of the intensive care units for Covid-19 are occupied (213 of 560 beds). Health Minister Plutarco Arias says that the emphasis is on detecting the cases early on, so fewer persons require hospitalization.

The official cumulative incidence of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants as per confirmed PCR tests is highest in the National District and these top 10 provinces: National District (2,893), Pedernales (1,445), Santiago (1,186), Sánchez Ramírez (1,097), La Altagracia (1,097), La Vega (1,011), Barahona (911), Duarte (895), La Romana (834), Maria Trinidad Sánchez (824), Azua (818) and Santo Domingo province with 782 is in 12th place in the incidence of the disease per 100,000 inhabitants.

Despite government announcements on improvements, testing continues inconsistent. The newest allocated cases reported for the 22 September update deadline are: National District (101), Santo Domingo (79), San Cristóbal (43), Santiago (27), Independencia (20), San Juan de la Maguana (15), La Vega (14), (Espaillat (13), Monseñor Nouel (12) and Pedernales (11).
Haiti reports 8,684 confirmed cases and 227 deaths, for the 23 September 2020 deadline.
In the Americas, the Dominican Republic is now ranked 11th in confirmed cases after the United States, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, Canada, Bolivia and Ecuador.
