
The Executive Branch submitted the 2021 National Budget to Congress on 1 October 2020. The budget, for the first time in history, surpasses the trillion pesos. It is for RD$1.03 trillion. There is a focus on construction, education and health sectors.
The budget calls for RD$2.49 billion to increase the capacity of Line 1 of the Santo Domingo Metro. Also, RD$3 billion for the continuing of the Domingo Savio urban renewal project on the Ozama River. The government allocates RD$48.7 billion to the Ministry of Public Works. Of the total, RD$9.64 billion is for road projects, including Los Alcarrizos, Baní and San Francisco de Macorís ring roads. Other works in the books for 2021 are the expansion of the Francisco del Rosario Sánchez bridge, the North-South highway, the Puerto Plata-Nagua, Sabana de la Mar-Hato Mayor, the Amber Highway to Puerto Plata.
The Ministry of Education gets RD$194.51 billion and the Ministry of Public Health RD$107.44 billion.
The Presidency budget is for RD$67.97 billion.
The Executive Branch estimates a deficit of RD$145.05 billion, or 3% of GDP for 2021.
